Roku launch's smart home

Roku is expanding its range of smart home products by adding an easy-to-install smart security system that can connect with the manufacturer’s smart TVs.

The new Home Monitoring System SE includes a hub with a siren, a motion sensor, and two door or window sensors. The system is expandable, and installation and monitoring can be done using the Roku Smart Home app. Users can also subscribe to a 24/7 professional monitoring service via Noonlight. Roku developed the system in collaboration with Wyze, and it integrates with Roku TV boxes and smart TVs.

The Roku System

The system, created in partnership with Wyze, integrates with Roku TV boxes and smart TVs. The company is also enhancing camera integration by adding event history to its Roku Cameras app for smart TVs.

This allows users to view recorded events from any connected cameras or doorbells, as well as live streaming. The app will automatically download recordings to the TV under the “Events” tab, but this feature requires a Roku Smart Home subscription.

Voice Control Integration

A new voice control integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, usable via the Roku remote or smartphone app, allows users to control Roku-branded smart lights and plugs and display a live camera feed on Roku TVs.

Voice integration also enables color control of the new Smart Light Strip Plus SE, sold separately starting at $34.99.

Pricing

The Home Monitoring System SE costs $99, while the professional monitoring service is priced at $9.99/month or $99.99/year, with a 50% discount for the first year for those who subscribe to the annual plan.

Starting in June, a new solar panel priced at $24.99 will be available to keep the battery-powered Roku Outdoor Camera SE charged. For now, no Italian launch is planned.
